Subject: Cable - The final word (for now)
I have never said that NACA5 (or 4) was a universal answer for all
(or even most) systems.
I designed it to make it easy to have a cable that had the right
amount of inductance between the amp's output and the loudspeaker
because unlike most amps out there, ours don't have an output inductor.
The reason that they don't, is that I percieved that one always
needed a cable to take the signal to the speakers and this cable
usually had about the right inductance itself, so there was no point
in doubling it and having an HF roll off in the audio band.
All this was then called into question when certain people made a
speaker cable without inductance (and sadly very high capacitance)
- this is akin to placing a short across the output.
So we then had to explain exactly what sort of cable (and how long)
to use. In the late 70's we specified RS 56 strand with 3 to 4 twists
per yard and about 10ft long.
In 1981 (I think) we introduced NACA4 which made the job less time
consuming.
The idea of the poweramp output configuration (including cable) is to
reduce the influence of the loudspeaker on the amplifiers' ability to
amplify the signal accurately, this applies to all speakers, not just
ours, and we were not even making speakers when we introduced the NACA4.
